Team Yukon Traditional Sports:

The Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle is responsible for the organization and development of Team Yukon for Arctic Sports and Dene Games. Both Sports have Juvenile, Junior and Open categories for the Arctic Winter Games and the spots are filled by attending the trails and or Yukon Championships. We will ensure proper information for the 2012 Arctic Winter Games which will be hosted in Whitehorse in March 2012. We are looking forward to a great year for Sport Development for Arctic Sports and Dene Games development.

Traditional Sports In-School Program
Over the past 5 years and by partnering with the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre we have delivered a very successful In-School program that has reached 90% of students in grades 6-12.   Our instructors concentrate on the basic elements the allow the youth to be successful in their attempts of the Traditional Sports. Each year we try to reach every school in the Yukon to promote these exciting games with a hope to find the next generation of Team Yukon athletes. Contact Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle Office for information at 668-2840.

K-12 Curriculum Development:
Over the next year the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle will be starting to develop a curriculum for Arctic Sports and Dene Games, so Physical Education teachers can incorporate these games into their lesson plans for the year. The curriculum will focus on logical development steps that will enable students easy transition from basic traditional sports to the highly technical traditional sports we see in the Arctic Winter Games. YASC will be starting focus groups with a selection of Physical Educators and the Department of Education to see how best to incorporate these sports into the Yukon School system.

Traditional Sports Resources – Currently the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle has 5 traditional sport resources available for anyone who is interested in the sports, the Governments of Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut have collaborated to provide these manuals for all to use.
